We've eaten quality Italian in a lot of different towns, so that is our point of comparison. Party of 5 tried various dishes. Owner and her daughter served us and they were delightful. They obviously are passionate about what they do. Shrimp and scallops with rigatoni gets three stars. Tasty but there wasn't enough seafood to justify a $24 price. Bay scallops overcooked to the point of being rubbery. Red sauce is on the thin side and a bit bland. My son's Veal parm was 4 stars. Quite good with the only concern being the previously mentioned red sauce falling just a bit flat. This dish was quite large with enough pasta and veal for two dinner servings. $29. Cute place with a very nice neighborhood bar. As good as Italian gets in Central PA but not on par with NY or Philly Italian. For small town PA, this was expensive. . $125 + tip for 3 of us including 2 appetizers, 3 main courses, 3 alcohol drinks , 3 sodas, 2 Cannolis and two coffees. Would definitely go back, but this time I'd order the veal parm and watch the number of iced tea refills.

Frickin awesome. I've never tasted marinara like that. And then! The strawberry cake and the cannoli! Mama Louisa is warm and bossy in all the right ways.

DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE! Mama will make you a delicious traditional southern Italian meal from her kitchen with all her own homegrown products. Her desserts are unbelievable and all this with a service that makes you feel at home.

Fabulous! Good service, good food, foot atmosphere. Just passing through looking for a place for lunch, found this on Yelp. Wish we were staying around for awhile we would most definitely come back to try more menu selections!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. The four of us had, rigatoni in a Gorgonzola sauce, veal parmigiana, cannelloni with spinach with marinara, and penne with shrimp and scallops in Alfredo sauce. The food was excellent. We topped it off with cannoli and Mama Luisa's lemon layer cake. Everything was excellent.

Mama Louisa and daughter welcomed our group of 6 recently for an impromptu late evening dinner. We enjoyed the attentions of our wonderful hostess and our dietary needs were met effortlessly (gluten-free) for one of our party. We felt warmly welcomed and treated to personal attention which reminded me of all the wonderful meals I had in Roma, at Il Pomodoro. A word to the wise. If you enjoy Italian food, REAL ITALIAN FOOD, put your menu down, your ego in your pocket, and squash any sense of hurry hurry hurry. A real Italian meal starts with drinks and antipasti, and is S-L-O-W. Tell Louisa or her daughter what you like and don't like, give them a $$ range of what you will pay for your plate, and tell them to surprise you. I promise you, there will be no regrets, except by your belt, who will scream in agony to be released as the coma of OUTSTANDING FOOD overtakes your senses..... Highly recommended, and can't wait to go back again!

outstanding food and service. Mama makes everything from scratch, nothing frozen, and her daughter, Eleornia, manages restaurant, bar and serves. Mama comes out of the kitchen to "schmooze" . The entrees were outstanding, but the desserts are amazing !!! if you are in the area, it's a must for lunch or dinner.

Eating here is an experience. Prepare to be welcomed as family. The mother and daughter run the whole place and make everything from scratch, and they will be as delighted with you as you are with their food. We came here as a group of nine - four adults and five kids, and we all left happy and very, very full. This is a family operation, with great standards and variations to suit what is in the kitchen. One of the mother's specialties is rigatoni in a gorgonzola with pistachios, which was exceptional. The pesto is a brilliant green, very flavorful. And please try the white mousse cake - we didn't leave a crumb.

Mama surprised me with the Italian seafood with linguine pasta. The best i have ever had. Always enjoy coming here. Eleonora mama's daughter is the host she gives the best customer service. Il miglior ristorante italiano dove la famiglia viene prima.

I will keep this short because my message is simple: La Fonte is the REAL DEAL in Italian cuisine. Everything our group had was hand made and delicious. I would not hesitate to return for more great food or to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Italian meal. Louisa, the owner, and her daughter, Eleanora, are excellent hosts. They are very welcoming and accommodating. Joe L's review was on the spot.

il migliore commensale che ho avuto in un tempo lungo (the best diner I have had in a long time) OMG, Mama made one of the best meals my wife and I had ever had. The moment we walked in the door we felt like family. We told Mama Luisa about my wife's allergies, and she created a meal that would be found in a 5 star restaurant. grazie, ti vogliamo bene! This is the BEST Italian restaurant I have ever ate at. My boyfriend and I shared one of the pasta dishes it came out fast and tasted amazing! The desserts were also very good. Mama makes the best cakes around and we will defiantly be getting some for peoples birthdays. All in all La Fonte is a great place to eat and we will be going back soon.

Louisa, the owner, and her daughter are gracious hosts, and the fact that they spoke Italian to one another augured well. Unfortunately, the meal wasn't as good as I had hoped. That's because I like a rich, deep red sauce, with lots of garlic and Italian spices, and the sauce at La Fonte was just, well, a little too bland. Also, there was plenty of ground beef in my lasagne, for example, but I like some Italian sausage mixed in for flavor, and I don't think that's how they prepare it at La Fonte. If there was a layer of ricotta cheese, I missed it. All in all, the lasagne was good, but not great. La Fonte seems to garner plenty of local support, though, so I suspect I'm in the minority with my opinion.

I ate at LaFonte on Dec 19th celebrating a friends birthday. I had the crab soup that was very good and the veal parmesan was excellent. The other members of our party also enjoyed their meals and we are planning on eating there again soon. This was my second time eating at LaFonte and I do prefer eating in restaurant area rather than the bar area.

This is by far the best Italian food that I've ever had. The italian owner is also the chef. She takes great pride in her cooking and will not let anyone else touch her italian dishes. She was in the hospital in Italy recently which is why the reviewer below found the place closed. All of the ingredients here are fresh. We have reactions to many preservatives, but have never had any issues at this place. I was invited to view the kitchen on one of my visits; and I can tell you from experience that you won't find any canned sauces here. They are all made from scratch. We haven't eaten at an italian chain restaurant since we found this place a couple years ago. Nothing else compares. The Olive Garden would be a serious disappointment compared to La Fonte. The atmosphere at La Fonte is very welcoming. The dining room next to the bar is casual. They also open a fine dining area on the weekend if you desire a more formal and/or intimate dining experience. You can expect a warm italian greeting. If the place is not too busy, don't be surprised if the chef doesn't come out of the kitchen at some point to introduce herself and get your feedback. My wife and I prefer to go during the week when they are less busy. This gives us a greater chance to talk with the the chef and her family. Also during the less busy times, the chef is happy to prepare special items for you that are not on the menu. If it is busy, I suggest you try the shrimp and scallops (excellent dish on the menu). If it is not so busy, ask her if she'll make you some of her excellent veal scaloppini or eggplant parmesan (not on the menu). She also recently added a new dish, rigatoni and gorgonzola sauce. This is by far the most upscale and delicious version of "mac--n-cheese" that I have ever eaten. In addition to their great italian dishes, they have a full, well stocked bar. They also have several american food choices available. Normally I stick with the italian dishes because they are so good, but I have also tried the crabcakes and they are excellent...lots of crab with just enough other stuff to hold it all together. Be sure to save room for dessert too. The selection varies from day to day without any pattern, so you never know what is going to be available. However, there are always some good choices. The three milk cake is my and my wife's favorite. If they have it, loosen the belt a notch if necessary and order a piece. You won't be disappointed. The canolis are also very good.

We tried to dine here on a recent Saturday night and it was closed. No sign on the door explaining why, no information posted on the website, no explanation on the voicemail.

How could a boy who grew up in New Jersey possibly "5 star" an Italian restaurant in New Oxford, PA (wherever that is?!?) unless I was drunk? desperate? or delusional? Very simple, good readers - La Fonte. Is. The. REAL. DEAL. You can easily drive past this place and not even realize you missed it. Unobtrusively placed within walking distance of the town square on the south side of eastbound route 30, this unassuming restaurant reflects the personality of its proprietors Momma Louisa and daughter Eleanora. Simple, charming, wonderful aromas wafting from the kitchen, a small dozen seat bar, plenty of tables for parties of all sizes - this delightful jewel shines at full radiance when you are served the wonderful traditional REAL Italian delights that Momma has cooked up in her kitchen. This is one of those places where every mouthful oozes with homemade delicious goodness. Momma has the personality to match. She's not afraid to tell it like it is. She knows her food is good and will occasionally foray into the dining area to recommend items on her menu. I envy you New Oxford. I've searched up and down Maryland for some authentic Italian only to find it by chance in a small town in otherwise rural Pennsylvania. 100% worth the trip if you're in nearby Gettysburg, Hanover or York.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
